I’m afraid the answer to this is an emphatic no. While I understand the seriousness of the climate crisis and the need to mitigate its effects, five trillion dollars is an unfeasible amount of money, one that I do not believe we can commit to paying on an annual basis. Climate change is a global problem that needs to have a global solution, and increasing investment in renewable energy and other measures to reduce our emissions is certainly one part of that, but it must also be accompanied by equally ambitious efforts from every nation on Earth, to reduce their own emissions and avoid further destabilizing our climate.
